Chayi maharan was originally written by Rebbe Nason to pass on the greatness of Rebbe Nachman to future generations. It remained unpublished and circulated amongst the students of Rebbe Nasson. In 1873 the first version of the book was finally printed by Rabbi Nachman of Tcherin.
